The Space Between Cast Recording To Be Released

Last month, Waitress and Kinky Boots star David Hunter teamed up with actor/singer-songwriter Caroline Kay to treat us to a brand new musical short 'The Space Between' and this week the project continues with a cast recording being released.

The show might only have been fourteen minutes long but it immediately won the hearts of theatre fans and critics alike, receiving a number of five star reviews. The Space Between tells the story of a couple forced apart from lockdown and is told entirely through Zoom, FaceTime and WhatsApp video calls. Think of it as The Last Five Years if Jamie and Cathy were in a global pandemic.

What makes the musical even more impressive was that it was created by David and Caroline during lockdown, having never met in person. Despite the fact they never physically meet in the show or met in person, the chemistry between the pair leaps off the screen(s) giving a real sense of authenticity. In just fourteen minutes, the pair will break your heart.

The jewel in the crown of The Space Between are the songs. The musical features three brand new songs, created for this project - 'Are You Happy Now?', 'Half Of My Heart' and 'On Your Side'. The songs were arranged by Nick Barstow and feature cellist Imogen Halsey and were all equally fantastic.

My first thought when watching this was how much I needed those songs in my ever-growing Spotify playlist. Our musical prayers have been answered as the cast recording will be released this Friday 7th August on all download and streaming platforms. I know I will be listening to them on repeat.
