Newsies: 1st Night Recap

Updated: Nov 30, 2022

It's time to seize the day as Newsies finally had its UK premiere at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre tonight (November 29th). I was there to experience the phenomenen in all its glory so get ready for the lowdown on all you need to know.

As with my other first night posts this will be a picture heavy look at the theatre, the stage and the curtain call with little bits of information about the show. If you're waiting for my actual review, that will be posted when I return for press night on December 8th.

First up is the merchandise with a host of fantastic branded product available to peruse. The queue for merch was bigger than I have seen at any other theatre show so get there early if you plan to get some!

The Troubadour Theatre in Wembley Park has been completely transfomed to host this immersive production of Newsies where the cast make full use of the space brilliantly.

Get to your seats early as there is a bit of pre-show entertainment featuring the cast before the show starts.

For the best place to sit, it looks like there's a good view everywhere though further back might be better here as a sitting too near the front might mean you miss some of the action. For that, perhaps the Manhattan section is better than Brooklyn.

Pictures and videos of the curtain call seem to be allowed, but I will update this if I hear otherwise. Here are some pics from the amazing cast tonight in their energetic curtain call.

As for the show itself, I'm afraid you're going to have to wait until next week to hear my thoughts on that one. It's fair to say though I was well and truly blown away by this production and may have used lines such as "THE show of the year".

But I will say no more than that. See it for yourself if you can. It needs to be seen to be believed!
