Some sad news this afternoon - Nimax theatres have announced that they have cancelled all future performances of City of Angels, meaning the show will not return when theatres reopen.

The show starred Hadley Fraser, Rosalie Craig, Nicola Roberts and Vanessa Williams and only managed one week of performances before the pandemic drew the curtain on the show prematurely.

It was due to play at the Garrick theatre until Saturday 5th September, before The Drifters Girl starring Beverley Knight took over for a limited run. Due to the uncertainty of when theatres will reopen and what safe performances will look like, there was a possibility of City of Angels extending its run. Sadly now that will not be the case.

I was lucky enough to see City of Angels in the short time it played at the Garrick before theatres closed - the staging was fantastic and the cast were incredible. It's a real shame more people were unable to see this production and hopefully it will return at some point in the future.

Meanwhile, the premiere of The Drifters Girl remains uncertain. The show was due to open in Newcastle later this year prior to its West end transfer in October. However, the dates in Newcastle have been postponed to October 2021. The West end dates are still on sale so there is a possibility it will now premiere in London before moving to Newcastle, just potentially at a later date than originally planned.

This news means the Garrick will now potentially join the Savoy and Adelphi theatres as shows with no current production when theatres reopen.

UPDATE:

Josie Rouke has posted on social media that while the future performances are currently not going ahead and ticketholders are receiving refunds, the show itself is not cancelled and they are looking into bringing it back when they can. Full post of hers below:
