Broadway Legends Line Up For Sondheim Celebration

A little thing like all the theatres across the world being closed isn't going to stop anyone. The show must go on, and on it will this Sunday 26th April.

Some of the biggest Broadway stars are lining up to celebrate Stephen Sondheim in Take Me To The World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration. Sondheim turned 90 in March but this date celebrates the 50th anniversary of Company opening on Broadway.

The concert kicks off at 8pm ET which will be 1am UK time and is available to watch on Broadway.com and their YouTube channel.

It features performances from Meryl Streep and Bernadette Peters, both of whom played The Witch in Into The Woods as well as performances from Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Kristin Chenoweth, Sutton Foster, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kelli O'Hara, Aaron Tveit, Maria Friedman and Stephen Schwartz amongst others.

Patti LuPone was reprising her scene stealing role as Joanne from the gender reversing West end production of Company on Broadway, though the run was only one week in before the theatres closed. Witnessing Patti LuPone perform 'The Ladies Who Lunch' in a way only Patti LuPone can is a sight to behold, and hopefully she will treat us to this at the concert.
