A Musical Tribute To Dame Vera Lynn

Today came the sad news that the legendary singer Dame Vera Lynn has passed away aged 103. In tribute I'm taking a look back at some of her musical theatre moments with some of the stars of today:

WE'LL MEET AGAIN

How else to start that with her most iconic song? This duet with Katherine Jenkins was performed very recently at the 75th anniversary VE Day concert, and moved the entire nation watching it.

WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR

For Vera Lynn's 100th birthday, stars of today recorded duets with her original vocals for a new album of her songs. For this classic song from Pinnocchio, Vera duetted with Grammy and Tony award winner and Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo.

WE'LL MEET AGAIN (AGAIN)

Well, the song is so iconic, I couldn't just include it once, could I? Here is Sheridan Smith singing 'Well meet again' at the D Day Anniversary concert last year.

THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

Though Vera didn't appear on the stage herself, she recorded this song for the Lionel Bart musical 'Blitz!'

WE'LL MEET AGAIN (AGAIN AGAIN)

Last one I promise. But this seemed like a fitting way to end this tribute. This version of 'Well Meet Again' was performed virtually at the start of the pandemic earlier this year. A collection of West end stars led by Alfie Boe collaborated on this beautiful version of 'We'll meet again' which took on a new meaning after lockdown was enforced. This version features a host of West end royalty including Louise Dearman, Kerry Ellis, Cassidy Janson, Bradley Jaden. Layton Williams and Michael Xavier.

Rest In Peace, Dame Vera Lynn.
